Reduce traffic

"I would like to buy a bike on retirement but am afraid of all the lorries" - Diana

Excessive traffic is creating a noisy, unsafe, unfriendly, unhealthy society. We're working to reduce traffic, because people deserve attractive streets where children can play, neighbours can meet, and pedestrians and cyclists can travel safely and in comfort.

"The volume and speed of traffic has increased tremendously... elderly people are afraid to cross the road"- Marion

Many people feel that traffic is a problem, but that they have no choice other than to drive. This problem can be tackled by:

  • Improving buses, trains and trams
  • Making streets safer for walkers and cyclists
  • Slowing down traffic where people live
  • Improving town planning so that homes, shops, workplaces and leisure facilities are closer together
  • Boosting rail freight as an alternative to lorries

"I myself do not have a car and feel like a second-class citizen" - Roger

We're working to secure all of these improvements. Find out more about our traffic campaign, read our traffic blog, or support us in our efforts.
