23 August 2013: Over the next few weeks and months we will be conducting research into bus cuts and where they are happening. For millions of people the bus is public transport with little or no other transport options to get from A to B.
When bus services are cut, it can have a truly devastating effect on individuals and communities and often these cuts affect the most vulnerable in our society such as the elderly, disabled, young or those on low incomes.
We fought very hard to ensure Central Government funding was saved from any further cuts in June’s Spending Round but there were further cuts to already stretched Local Authority budgets, meaning a 20% reduction in funding since 2010. As a result of this, supported bus services across the country are under severe threat or have already been changed, reduced or cut completely.
We really need your eyes and ears to help us target where the worst of these cuts are taking place, so we can then build a picture of bus cuts and help the local campaigners that are fighting to save their buses.
If you are concerned, having seen or heard of cuts or threats to your bus service, or are a local campaigner fighting to protect your transport lifeline then we would really like to hear from you.
Please tell us about your story, why buses are important in your area and help us to build a clear picture of the impact of these cuts. We will then take this to Government to help us in the fight to Save Our Buses.
Please take a few minutes to fill out our quick form here or alternatively tweet us using #SaveOurBuses.
