Campaign group: give more control of rail services to local authorities to prevent future timetable chaos

13 June 2018

The London Assembly Transport Committee met today, 13 June, to examine the current and future needs of London's rail network. Giving evidence, Stephen Joseph, CEO of Campaign for Better Transport, said that locally controlled rail services such as London Overground and Merseyrail tend to work better than those run under Government franchises. Stephen Joseph commented:

"If Transport for London were in charge it is almost inconceivable that the Thameslink timetable fiasco would have happened, because TfL is both more competent generally and more accountable on a day to day basis."
