"The prospect of fighting a road can feel hopeless. Campaign for Better Transport offers information, support and advice that helps people understand the initially bewildering procedures involved" - Tim Clark, Save the Valley campaign, Durham.
We support groups campaigning against road building through a project called Road Block. The project is run by Richard George (Rebecca Lush Blum, who set up Road Block, is currently on maternity leave). Road Block started life as an independent organisation in 2005, becoming part of Campaign for Better Transport in 2007.
We have produced an online campaigner's guide to help with every aspect of campaigning against a new road, from understanding the complex procedures to knowing who all the key players are. The guide takes you through campaigning tactics from setting up a group, to submitting a freedom of information request, to gaining media coverage. If you have further questions please contact us.
On a national level, we help local campaigners by influencing policy makers and interesting the national media in bad road schemes.
Through Road Block, we help groups campaign through the planning process; we do not get involved in direct action campaigns.
