Campaigners have welcomed the Government announcement that it will consider, for the first time, providing grants or other financial incentives to support the use of e-cargo bikes.
Bridget Fox, Sustainable Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport, said:
"We welcome the long overdue recognition of the role that e-cargo bikes can play in cutting the congestion and pollution that blight so many communities. More businesses are turning to e-cargo bikes to provide faster, cleaner deliveries, and many more could follow with the right support.
"It is wrong that while there are grants for electric vans, and fuel duty on petrol and diesel is frozen, there has been no funding for electric delivery bikes. We are glad that the Government is considering this change: there is a powerful case for extending grants to electric bikes as soon as possible."
