Stop the Heysham to M6 Link Road

Lancashire County Council has applied to the Department for Transport (DfT) for funding to build the Heysham to M6 Link Road. The road would increase carbon dioxide emissions by a massive 23,500 tonnes every year. It would destroy 173 acres of Green Belt [right] and increase flooding risk for the River Lune. And it wouldn't ease local congestion: on the contrary, it's designed to attract more lorries to use Heysham port. This terrible scheme would cost up to £189 million.

Not surprisingly the road is very controversial and unpopular locally.

Unfortunately planning permission for the road was granted earlier this year. Now only one thing stands in the way of the road being built (apart from a residents' lawsuit): the question of whether the DfT will award the necessary funding.

Please support the Lancashire residents fighting this road by asking the Transport Minister Rosie Winterton not to fund it.
