This week we visited the beautiful Shropshire village of Ditton Priors. Sadly this village is really feeling the impacts of cuts to local bus funding. There are now no bus services running to or from the village meaning many of the local residents have been cut off completely.

Michelle Wilkes and her daughter Megan rely on buses to get them to work and for their independence. Shropshire County Council has cut 39% of its funding for buses since 2010 meaning many areas like Ditton Priors have been effectively cut off. This is as a result of central Government decisions that have seen over £44 million cut from vital local bus funding since 2010. Rural areas like Ditton Priors are often hit hardest and the aim of our visit was to find out first-hand what happens when lifeline buses are cut from an area that relies upon them.

We also took a trip with Michelle in the community car scheme which has been put in place as a replacement for the buses that used to run to see if it serves the needs of local residents in the rural area.
