12 July 2010: The Department for Transport will this week submit their bid to the Treasury for what they want to fund over the next three years. There are plenty of powerful lobbies arguing for billions to be spent on building new roads, but the voice of bus users must be heard.
We've just written to every English MP so they hear how important it is to protect support for buses. The letter is signed by 12 different groups - organisations like Friends of the Earth, Bus Users UK, local authority representative groups and those representing companies running buses as well as trade unions representing those working on buses.
All of us are calling on government to keep support for bus services and to avoid cutting the main direct form of support for buses (the Bus Service Operators Grant or BSOG). Cutting BSOG would decimate services and see fares rising by at least 10%.
Please join our call to MPs to support buses [note: action now closed].
