Will the Conservatives support taxibuses?

Former campaigner's picture

26 May 2010: The successful Wiltshire Taxibuzz evening service is due to be cut this Friday unless campaigners can prevent it.

More and more people are discovering the taxibus linking Devizes and surrounding villages to Pewsey station which can be booked up to 20 minutes ahead. It needs better marketing, but it's a great example of how good, cost-efficient rural public transport can be provided.

The Conservatives have said they want to see demand responsive taxibuses like this one piloted across the country. Yet Conservative-run Wiltshire Council will cut the service unless Kennet Passengers can change the minds at a meeting today.

The Council should look at the evidence and think again unless it wants its villages to be signed ‘car drivers only’.
