Reacting to the Queen's Speech, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
"We welcome the commitments to improve people's daily lives by investing in infrastructure; to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050; and to put in place legally binding targets for reducing air pollution. To meet these commitments there must be a step change in sustainable transport up and down the country, especially in those areas that have seen declining services and connections in recent years.
"Passengers and communities deserve swift action, and in the Government's first 100 days it should develop a National Bus Strategy, announce greater investment in new and reopened rail lines, and publish its White Paper to reform the railways so it works for its passengers and the communities it serves."
