Campaigners respond to announcement of new trains for northern England

8 January 2015

Campaign for Better Transport has responded to an announcement by the Department for Transport that rail services will be maintained and more seats will be offered in the north of England.

Martin Abrams, Public Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport said: "We welcome the announcement that rail services on some routes in northern England are going to improved. This will provide short term relief for passengers using overcrowded services. The Government now needs to use the refranchising of Northern Rail and Trans Pennine Express to guarantee investment in more and better trains right across the region, including a clear timetable for replacing the outdated Pacers."
