Campaign for Better Transport has responded to details of the franchise extension for First Great Western, published today by the Department for Transport.
Martin Abrams, Public Transport Campaigner, campaign for Better Transport said
"First Great Western passengers will welcome the news that new trains are on the way to help reduce overcrowding. However, the rolling stock won't be arriving anytime soon, and questions remain about whether the franchising system is rewarding failure.
First Great Western must use this investment to respond to passenger criticisms and improve services. In the future, the Department for Transport needs to give passengers a much clearer voice in discussions over franchise extensions."
The Department for Transport has published details of the agreement with First Group plc for First Great Western (FGW) franchise, which will see First continuing to operate trains between London Paddington, South Wales and the south west until April 2019.
