Campaigners respond to 'Garden city line' plan

6 October 2014
Campaign for Better Transport has responded to news that the Liberal Democrats will build new garden cities along a re-opened Oxford - Cambridge rail line.

James MacColl, Head of Campaigns, Campaign for Better Transport said:

"Without proper planning, building new towns in the London commuter belt risks piling ever more people onto overcrowded commuter trains and creating congestion on our roads. Creating high quality public transport such as the Oxford to Cambridge rail line will be essential, and should be part of a country-wide programme that puts public transport, walking and cycling at the heart of new development, making it the best and easiest choice for far more of our journeys."
