Campaigners respond to Mary Creagh's comments on Pacer trains on Northern Rail

17 October
Campaigners respond to Labour transport spokesperson Mary Creagh's comments on Pacer trains on Northern Rail.

Martin Abrams, Public Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"Despite universal acknowledgement that Pacers need replacing urgently, it seems current and future governments are content to let passengers languish on these antiquated, bone-shaking, slow-moving carriages. With the Northern and TransPennine Express franchises up for renewal and transport increasingly an issue for the General Election, now is the time for commitment to giving the fast-growing numbers of rail users in the region the high quality service they need and deserve. Devolving power from Westminster to local authorities would enable those who really care about rail travel to invest in decent trains and better rail services that are fit for the 21st century.
