Campaigners welcome investment in local sustainable transport for Wales

5 December 2018

Responding to Wales' Transport Secretary Ken Skates' announcement of £78 million for local transport projects, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"Local sustainable transport measures are proven to deliver excellent value for money as well as greener and healthier travel choices for communities across Wales. This welcome announcement contrasts starkly with the plan to spend billions of pounds on a new M4 'relief road' through the precious Gwent Levels. We urge the Welsh Government to drop this disastrous road scheme and invest instead in a sustainable transport future for Wales."

The £78 million was announced yesterday, 4 December, as part of the Local Transport Fund.

A key vote on the M4 'relief road', scheduled for yesterday, has now been delayed until after the election of a new First Minister.
