Friends of Askern Railway Station

Area: South Yorkshire
Interest: Rail

Friends of Askern Railway Station was formed by a group of residents of the town of Askern and surrounding villages in South Yorkshire - the most northern town in the borough of Doncaster. Askern is the only town in the Doncaster borough area which has a rail line passing through it and no rail station. Askern did once have a rail station which was lost during the cuts and the group has been formed to get this station put back. The line is predominantly freight but does have a passenger service running along it and a service on this line primarily between Doncaster and Leeds would provide a valuable asset to the local population not only to get to and from work in Doncaster, Sheffield, Leeds etc but also to shop and visit relatives etc.

The photo below is an overhead shot of where we think the station should be placed.
