London's Ultra Low Emission Zone: reaction from Campaign for Better Transport

4 April 2019

In reaction to the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) coming into force in London on Monday 8 April, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"With two million Londoners living in areas which currently exceed legal limits for air pollution, the ULEZ is a vital element in tackling the deadly levels of dirty air in London.

"Londoners should be able to walk the streets without being exposed to poisoned air, and children should be safe to play in the streets without their health being damaged by the fumes from vehicle traffic. We commend Londoners for backing and bringing forward this world-leading initiative that demonstrates to other cities how it is possible to clean up the air we breathe."
