Area: East Midlands
Manchester and East Midlands Rail Action Partnership (MEMRAP) is a Derbyshire Dales based campaigning body, seeking re-instatement of 12 miles of railway between Rowsley and Buxton/Chinley. This protected and mostly unobstructed route offers good value to satisfy pent-up demand for:
- Freight: Higher productivity and lower emissions from direct southbound paths. From Buxton and Peak Forest quaries, limestone and aggregates go mostly to south of England construction sites
- Passenger: Linking the East Midlands and North West economies, a shift to more sustainable public commuting and business travel
- Community, Leisure and Heritage: Integrated with a community/heritage transport model offering improved leisure and tourist access to both the Dales and the ever more popular Peak District National Park (PDNP).
