Reaction: Committee on Climate Change challenges Government to cut transport carbon emissions

1 December 2008
Campaign for Better Transport responded to today’s launch of advice to the Government from the Committee on Climate Change by welcoming the challenge that has been laid

The report amounts to a significant challenge to government transport policy by identifying ways that surface transport can and must make a major contribution to tackling climate change according to Campaign for Better Transport.

Stephen Joseph, the executive director of Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"The committee is clear that emissions from transport will need to be drastically cut and that this must come from changing the way people travel as well as from new technology such as electric vehicles. Specifically aviation will need to cut its emissions. We now need the Government to respond positively to this by coming up with a full strategy for cutting carbon from transport and making it easier and cheaper for people and businesses to choose low-carbon transport."

We recently published research showing how transport emissions could be reduced by 26%.
