Responding to the speech made by the Transport Secretary Chris Grayling MP at the Conservative Party Conference today, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“We welcome moves to improve the way rail passengers can claim compensation for delays and cancellations. This year we've seen more clearly than ever the impact on passengers' lives, so any changes to the current compensation system must put passengers’ needs first and foremost.
“We also welcome moves to tackle potholes and local road maintenance. We must adopt a ‘fix it first’ approach to road spending, rather than spending billions on building new roads at the expense of the local roads people use most frequently.”
