Responding to Transport Secretary Chris Grayling MP's statement on the current rail timetabling chaos, Steve Chambers, public transport campaigner at Campaign for Better Transport, said:
"This statement offers nothing for passengers in the short term and no end in sight to the current chaos. We need to hear more detail on this 'special compensation' scheme, but it should be easy to claim and offer meaningful redress for the problems passengers have suffered.
"The Government lets and manages rail franchises, and Govia Thameslink is a management contract controlled in detail by the Department for Transport, so the Government should have known the problems with drivers well before it hit crisis point. The buck stops with the Government on this."
