Rail Review must prioritise fares reform

4 June 2019

Responding to the one year anniversary of the Rail Delivery Group’s (RDG) Easier Fares Consultation, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"For years, the fares system has left passengers paying a fortune to travel on overcrowded trains. We urgently need investment and reform to tackle these problems, respond to changing working patterns and take advantage of opportunities from new technology.

"The Government's review of the railways must prioritise fares reform. Nothing short of an overhaul of the entire fares system will resolve the problems passengers face and start to restore public faith in the railways."
