Responding to the close of the Rail Delivery Group’s Easier Fares consultation today, which has clocked up around 20,000 responses, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“It’s clear from the number of responses to this consultation that there is a huge demand for the long overdue and much needed reform of the rail fares system. Longer term reforms will not help the thousands of passengers who face fare rises next year and who have borne the brunt of service disruptions this year. The Government should freeze fares from January to help commuters and to start rebuilding confidence and trust in the railways whilst they reform the fares system.”
