Responding to the publication of Public Health England’s Review of interventions to improve outdoor air quality and public health, Darren Shirley, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“We welcome the clear and sensible recommendations in this review for tackling air pollution caused by transport. It shows that we must take urgent action to fundamentally change the way we travel. National and local Government need to invest more in public transport to provide a joined-up network that gives people a genuine alternative to the car, and introduce local and national road pricing that reflects the true cost of motoring.
“Government departments must now work together to properly address the air pollution crisis and ensure local authorities have the ability to take the action needed in their areas.”
