Campaign for Better Transport has responded to Highways England plan to upgrade the A27 Chichester bypass.
Highways England want to spend millions of pounds on the upgrade of the bypass with funding from the Department of Transport’s £15 billion roads investment strategy.
Chris Todd, Roads Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“The A27 Chichester northern bypass may be dead in the water, but upgrading the southern bypass risks encouraging more people to drive and moving the congestion into our towns and cities.
Highways England need to take the opportunity to make it easier and safer for people to walk and cycle across the A27. That will help reconnect local communities while reducing the need to drive.”
