Campaign responds to plans to simplify long distance rail fares

17 September 2013
Campaign for Better Transport has responded to plans announced by Transport Minister, Norman Baker, for a pilot scheme that could see all long-distance rail tickets sold on a single-leg basis.

Richard Hebditch, Campaigns Director, Campaign for Better Transport said

“Passengers are faced with a bewildering array of options when buying a rail ticket and there is a need for a simpler system. Moving to pricing that’s based on each leg of a trip should help but changes to the way fares are regulated need to protect passengers rather than being used to extract more money from them, as happens too often at present.”
