Campaigners call for open access to rail fare data

20 February 2014
Campaign for Better Transport has responded to the announcement of a review of the rail ticketing market by the Office of Rail Regulation (ORR).

Martin Abrams, Public Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport said

"Campaign for Better Transport is pleased the ORR is taking a detailed look at ticketing. There needs to be open access to data so passengers always get the best fare and can avoid anomalies like split ticketing and overly complex and restrictive fares. Moves toward fairer, simpler ticketing are long overdue."

The ORR has today also published a year on year increase in passenger journeys of 4.5 per cent and an increase in annual passenger revenue of 6.2 per cent compared with 2012-13.

Martin Abrams said

"The continuing growth of our railways is a real success story. But the millions who rely on the trains are being hit by fares hikes that far outstrip increases in incomes. We need to keep ticket prices under control if we want the railways to keep growing."
