Campaigners welcome Government’s new cycling and walking strategy

21 April 2017

Campaign for Better Transport responds to the publication today, Friday 21 April, of the Government’s Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS).

CWIS is the Government’s strategy to increase cycling and walking in England.

Stephen Joseph, Chief Executive, Campaign for Better Transport said:

“Prioritising investment in cycling and walking at local level, and in particular retrofitting existing roads, is a welcome move in the right direction but it still does not go far enough with the funds to deliver them. The £1.2 billion made available is paltry, less than 10 per cent of the £15 billion Road Investment Strategy.

"The proof of the pudding will be in delivery at local level and the increased numbers of people walking and cycling that we all want to see."
