Responding to the publication of the Transport Select Committee’s report, Bus Services in England outside London, today Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport Darren Shirley, said:
“Millions of people rely on the bus every day. They deserve an affordable, regular and reliable service that connects communities and supports local economies.
“In our evidence to the Transport Select Committee we raised the negative impact of dwindling local bus services on communities up and down the country and the need for Government intervention to halt the steady decline of the local bus. The Committee backed our calls for a National Bus Strategy, and we now urge the Government to take on board these recommendations and produce a long-term strategy for local buses.”
