Mayor must cancel road building plans to tackle London’s toxic traffic

22 November 2016

Responding to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan’s announcement of a series of measures aimed at directly tackling growing congestion on London’s roads, James MacColl, Head of Campaigns at Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"Bus use in London has been declining as congestion has got worse recently, so the Mayor is right to recognise the need for better bus priority measures to keep the buses flowing. But building new roads like the Silvertown tunnel will only generate more traffic in places which already suffer from lethal air pollution. We can't agree the Mayor is truly committed to tackling London's toxic traffic until he cancels plans for building dirty new roads."
