Campaign for Better Transport responds to the speech given today to business leaders in Manchester, by Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP.
The speech outlines proposals for the introduction of digital technology to improve rail journeys between Manchester and York.
Stephen Joseph, Chief Executive, Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“We welcome the Government's commitment to invest in the Trans-Pennine rail route, after doubts had been raised over whether investment would continue. However, passengers and communities across the North will want to see detail and timescales about exactly what this will mean in practice, and when they can expect quicker and more frequent services.
“We hope the Government and Network Rail will come forward soon with details and work with councils and communities to seek the step change in the quality and quantity of rail services that the North needs."
