Devolution in the North East welcomed if it improves transport, say campaigners

23 October 2015

Campaign for Better Transport responds to reports of new devolution deals for the North East and Tees Valley city regions.

James MacColl, Head of Campaigns, Campaign for Better Transport, said:

“We welcome the move towards more devolution of transport powers as local control over transport and spending can bring real benefits to passengers with experience showing that local authorities are better able to plan for their local rail, road and bus needs.

Most passengers just want to see more investment in their transport, more affordable public transport and making their towns and cities better places in which to live and work. New mayors in the North East and Tees Valley will need to show that this is what they will deliver.”
