Campaign for Better Transport has welcomed Silviya Barrett as its new Head of Policy, Research and Projects.
Silviya, who was previously Research Manager at Centre for London, joined the transport charity on 17 February.
At Centre for London, the capital's dedicated think tank, Silviya Barrett headed up the Transport and Environment research programme. Silviya managed the independent, expert-led Commission on the Future of London's Roads and Streets and authored a number of reports on how we can achieve a shift towards sustainable transport. Research topics included next generation road user charging and creating a fairer transport system in London.
Prior to Centre for London, Silviya worked at the London Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where she managed the research and survey programme and authored reports on various topics affecting London businesses. She holds a Master's degree in European Studies from King's College London and a BA (Hons) degree in International Relations and Management from Regent's American College London.
Silviya Barrett, Head of Policy, Research and Projects at Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“I am excited to join Campaign for Better Transport at such a crucial time for the sector. It is a fantastic opportunity to harness my understanding of what is needed to tackle transport challenges at the national level. I look forward to supporting Darren at the strategic leadership level to ensure the organisation goes from strength to strength.”
Darren Shirley, Chief Executive at Campaign for Better Transport, said:
"We are delighted that Silviya Barrett has joined us at a time of great challenge and opportunity for transport. With the need for swift action to tackle the sector's contribution to climate change and air pollution; a Rail White Paper and National Bus Strategy on the horizon; and a chance to make the case for improving transport for rural communities and in our towns and cities, Silviya brings a wealth of experience to aid us in putting forward evidence-led, effective solutions."
Ruth Chapple, Deputy Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, has departed the organisation after 11 years to take up a new role as Director of Finance and Resources at Leap Confronting Conflict. Darren Shirley said:
"We are indebted to Ruth Chapple for the vital role she has played in managing Campaign for Better Transport's operations team for the past 11 years, enabling this small charity to have a large impact."
