Campaign for Better Transport has responded to the publication of the annual Carplus survey of car club members.
The survey reveals the huge success of car clubs across the country as more people give up their private car for a more convenient and environmentally friendly option. Bridget Fox, Sustainable Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport, said: “It is good to see more and more people are choosing to join a car club which is a great way to reduce the hassle of individual car ownership, and get more cars off our already congested roads.
"Car club members are also more likely to use public transport, walk or cycle which is great for the environment, especially in London which has some of the worst air pollution levels in Europe.
"What we also need to see is better planning for new developments, reducing the number of parking spaces available for private cars and switching to parking spaces for car clubs instead.”
