Welsh bus funding good, but more needed

27 March 2018

Responding to the news that Welsh local authorities will receive £25 million in funding from the Bus Services Support Grant (BSSG) to support socially necessary buses next year, Steve Chambers, public transport campaigner at Campaign for Better Transport, said:

“It is good news that the Welsh Government are able to maintain this important piece of funding and will mean local authorities in Wales can keep valued bus routes and services running. Unfortunately local authorities in England have seen funding cut by a third since 2010 and are faced with difficult decisions next year. Council funded buses are in jeopardy, unless the UK Government provides adequate funding as part of a national Coach and Bus Investment Strategy. If socially important buses continue to decline, people will be left stranded.”
