Roads policy still too focused on building us out of congestion

28 November 2016

Responding to the announcement by Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling MP, today on how the £1.3 billion of transport funding announced in the Autumn Statement will be spent, James MacColl, Head of Campaigns at Campaign for Better Transport, said:

"Roads policy has to be focused on reducing congestion and pollution and there is still far too little on this. We're glad that the Government has listened to us in putting more attention into local road maintenance. However none of this new funding is allocated to investing in decent quality public transport that gives people an alternative to driving, and far too much is still being committed to new road building, which will add to traffic jams, worsen air pollution and hurt local economies."
