Rail Review should establish rail’s objectives before tackling its structures

30 April 2019

Reacting to the Rail Delivery Group’s response to the Williams Rail Review today, Darren Shirley Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport said:

“The railway has the potential to deliver huge economic, social and environmental benefits to communities and the country as a whole, but focusing too narrowly on operational issues is unlikely to lead to the ambitious recommendations for reform that passengers and the economy needs. The Rail Review must look to establish the railway’s economic, social and environmental objectives, before it considers industry suggestions for new structures, to ensure future reforms benefit all parts of society.”
