Fuel duty postponement: huge step backwards

16 July 2008
Responding to the Government’s decision to further postpone the planned 2p increase in fuel duty [1], Campaign for Better Transport’s Campaigns Director Jason Torrance said:

“The Government has taken a huge step backwards which has condemned us to more traffic, more pollution and more CO2 emissions. Just last week the RAC revealed that the cost of motoring has fallen while the cost of public transport has increased dramatically over the last 20 years. The Government must get some backbone and invest fuel duty in public transport and provide people with much-needed travel choices.”
