Interests: Road building
The road scheme we are involved with is the A14 Ellington to Fen Ditton proposal, in particular the off line section between Ellington and Fen Drayton. The group is seeking to work with the Highways Agency and others to identify a route which would have the least overall detrimental effect on local communities whilst preserving the natural environment to the fullest extent possible.
The group has successfully fought a High Court Action for a further consultation at which a number of alternative routes were put forward including a route over an old landfill site. The group supports this 'Brown Route' as we believe it will have less impact on the surrounding communities in terms of noise and landscape. We now await the preferred route announcement due this summer.
August 2009: The A14 Ellington to Fen Ditton was originally estimated at £490 million. It is now expected to cost up to £1.2 billion – an almost three-fold rise - making it the UK’s most expensive road project. The Highways Agency plans to publish detailed proposals for the scheme in draft Orders and an Environmental Statement in Autumn 2009, followed by a public inquiry.
