Our Buses in Crisis report found that 2016/17 has been a bad year for cuts to bus services. Local authority cuts to bus funding meant that about 500 routes were reduced or completely withdrawn. This has meant since 2010, funding to buses in England and Wales has been cut by around a third, and around 2,4000 routes have been altered or lost altogether.
Our research shows people living in Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Somerset, Dorset, West Berkshire, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire, Hertfordshire, North Yorkshire and Lancashire will be hit particularly badly with local authorities proposing massive cuts from local bus budgets over the next few years totalling more than £27 million, leaving many rural and isolated communities with little or no bus services at all.
Please send a clear message to your MP and tell them why buses are vitally important, letting them know that enough is enough, action must be taken to prevent the continued decline in our buses and provide them with the funding they need and deserve.
