Support the Oldham Rochdale Manchester rail lines (STORM)

Area: Greater Manchester
Interests: Bus, Rail

STORM was formed over 25 years ago to campaign to keep the 'Oldham Loop' line from Rochdale via Oldham to Manchester Victoria open. Storm also monitors the main line services from Rochdale to Leeds and Manchester Victoria (the Calder Vally route).

Our main aim has been eventually realised with the 'loop' being converted to light rail, Metrolink. Metrolink services opened to Rochdale Rail Station in mid 2013; the Oldham Town Centre route and the Rochdale terminus stop at Rochdale Interchange will open in 2014.

STORM continues to monitor and lobby local Passenger Transport Executives Transport for Greater Manchester, the local council through the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities, MPs and train operators (Northern Rail) to improve services and raise all passenger related concerns.

STORM Matters is a weekly email newsletter which reports good and bad transport performances (and much more); please contact the group to request it.

A speciality of STORM is the provision of access for all on public transport, with one member a specialist in web access for blind people using screen readers. This member Frank Salt (and his guide dog Lewis) is a founder member of TFGM's award winning Disability Design Reference Group (DDRG). If any group would like its website checked for access by screen reader feel free to contact STORM.

We are also concerned with all aspects of bus provision around Rochdale and Oldham including cross county services serving Lancashire and West Yorkshire.

We meet at 7:30pm on the first Tuesday of each month at The Newhey Lodge, Huddersfield Road, Newhey, Rochdale OL16 3RU. (Newhey Lodge is adjacent to the Newhey Metrolink stop and all are welcome.)
