Transition Stroud Transport Group works in the Stroud Valleys area. We have three important reasons to make transport radically more sustainable:
- To improve quality of life
- To reduce carbon emissions
- To prepare for Peak Oil
We meet on the third Tuesday evening of every month except August (the date may differ in December). Meetings take place at different venues in and around Stroud - please contact us for details.
In 2009 we are developing a pilot of Personal Travel Planning questionnaires to encourage people to consider alternatives to the car. We will send out a short-version of the questionnaire (for self-completion) to approx 3000 families of students at 5 secondary schools in Stroud. We also hope to conduct one-to-one interviews with people via a stall during Green Travel Week, via a local programme called Carbon Watchers and with employees of our District Council.
We are also making plans for June with other organisations including the District Council for a programme of events under the banner of 'Trip Switch - transforming travel in the Stroud District' to include a stall as part of a broader sustainable travel event in the town centre, and an extension of last year's successful Changing Gear project which encouraged secondary school pupils to cycle to school. The schools are also planning a week of PARK and STRIDE, a week of promoting public transport/car sharing and a week of promoting low carbon living and carbon offsetting linked to a down-to-earth tree planting project in India.
