Thank you to everyone who took part in the engagement exercise carried out by Campaign for Better Transport on Transport for the North's emerging Strategic Transport Plan (STP).
We carried out workshops, an online survey and interviews on the challenges and opportunities in the forthcoming Strategic Transport Plan; and further engagement on the draft Integrated Sustainability Assessment framework, drawn up by Atkins, on which the STP will be assessed. Below are details on the engagement process, plus materials from the workshops.
We were very pleased to have over 120 contributions from a range of organisations through online surveys, interviews and participation in the first round of workshops. The slides from the November workshops are attached below, with links to other key documents.
You told us that you want to see carbon reduction and tackling air pollution as central aims of the plan, with protection for landscape and the natural environment. There was strong support for joined-up public transport services that connect local communities, including moves to integrated ticketing, as well as encouragement for walking and cycling.
Based on that feedback, Campaign for Better Transport has compiled a report setting out some key challenges and opportunities for TfN in developing their plan. We have prepared a summary of the report with the headline findings. This headlines report is attached below. The full report, including workshop notes and individual responses, will be published along with other key documents informing the STP, later in 2017.
There will also be an Integrated Sustainability Appraisal (ISA), including a Strategic Environmental Assessment, of the plan prepared by Atkins, who are conducting formal consultation on the scoping of the ISA: the consultation on the scoping runs until 6 March. Campaign for Better Transport held workshops with TfN & Atkins to consult environmental groups on the ISA scoping in January and February. A summary of the scoping report is attached below with other materials from the Jan/Feb 2017 workshops (scroll to base of page). There is also an online survey where you can give your views and those of your organisation on the ISA scope here.
