Bus fare rise will be ‘costly start to 2025’
Speaking ahead of the rise in the single bus fare cap, which comes into effect on 1 January 2025, Silviya Barrett from Campaign for Better Transport said:
“This is a significant increase that will be a costly start to 2025 for many people. Buses are our most used form of public transport, so they need to be affordable. The fare cap has proved popular with passengers and helped boost ridership so the Government must now look for a long-term replacement for the scheme from next year to avoid any further rises.”

Notes to Editors
- The previous Government introduced the single bus fare cap in January 2023. It was due to end this year, but as part of the Budget in October, the Government announced it was extending the cap until at least December 2025, but would raise it by 50 per cent to £3 on January 1st.
