Barking Eurohub rail freight announcement welcomed
Responding to today’s announcement of a Government-backed deal to turn the Barking Eurohub site in east London into an international rail freight logistics hub, Ben Plowden, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“The Channel Tunnel has played a key role in increasing UK economic prosperity over the last three decades, but it has been woefully underused, particularly when it comes to freight. Today’s announcement will help to change that. We are particularly pleased to see the Government give such a clear and strong commitment to international rail which – in tandem with domestic rail reforms – can boost the economy, reduce road congestion and create cleaner, healthier communities.”
