Better Transport Conference 2026 to put transport policy to the test
Campaign for Better Transport has announced that this year’s Better Transport Conference will take place on Friday 19 June at London South Bank University.
The free event is open to anyone with a personal or professional interest in transport and takes place as the sector faces a significant period of reform. The Railways Bill is before Parliament, the Bus Services Act has passed, devolution is continuing and the Integrated National Transport Strategy for England, Better Connected, is being rolled out. The conference will ask how these legal and institutional changes will translate into transport which works for all people and places, through sessions investigating the social and economic impact of transport policy.
The conference will bring together policymakers, practitioners and the public across four sessions: rail reform beyond the legislation; better buses (covering funding, franchising and the gap between ambition and reality); the human cost of poor transport, explored through Campaign for Better Transport’s Bus Stop Stories campaign; and devolution, examining how regional and local authorities are turning devolved powers into better local transport.
Campaign for Better Transport is pleased to announce that this year’s conference keynote address will be delivered by Lord Peter Hendy, Minister of State for Rail.
Ben Plowden, Chief Executive of Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“Better Transport Week always brings together some of the most important conversations happening in transport, and this year feels particularly timely. With big changes happening in transport legislation and the structure of government, there’s a lot to do to ensure successful delivery for passengers and communities. This conference is about asking the right questions, and we want to leave with practical answers and real commitments. I’d like to thank our sponsor AtkinsRéalis, and London South Bank University for hosting.”
The Better Transport Conference takes place during Better Transport Week – Campaign for Better Transport’s annual celebration of sustainable transport – which this year takes place from 15 to 21 June and focuses on how better transport connects people and places.
