Campaigners respond to new trains for East Coast
16 April 2014
Campaign for Better Transport has responded to the announcement that new trains for the East Coast Mainline are due to be in service by 2018 and will be built in County Durham.
Stephen Joseph, Chief Executive, Campaign for Better Transport said
“Passengers will be pleased to see the East Coast Mainline trains finally getting an upgrade, but many will feel the move is overdue. The average ECML train will be over 30 years old by the time they come out of service in 2018. That the new trains will be built in County Durham is also good news. Both passengers and UK engineering are crying out for a long-term Government strategy for rolling stock across the whole network.”
