Calls for a rail fare freeze for 2025

14 August 2024

Responding to the announcement today of July’s RPI figure, traditionally used to set the annual rail fare rise, Michael Solomon Williams from Campaign for Better Transport, said:

“For too long passengers have been forced to cope with the financial burden of the annual fare rise, all while fuel duty has remained frozen for 14 years.

“Until the cut to fuel duty is reversed, and cost parity achieved, the government should freeze rail fares to avoid pricing passengers off the railways.”
