Government must act in response to Climate Change Committee report
Responding to the Climate Change Committee’s report to Parliament on progress in reducing emissions, Silviya Barrett from Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“This report confirms that we cannot rely on electric vehicles alone to cut carbon emissions and that reducing the number of cars on the roads is also key.
“There is now widespread agreement that we need to reduce traffic by at least 20% on 2019 levels by 2030 if we are to meet the 6th carbon budget.
“What is also clear is that we are running out of time. The Government must put policies in place now to reduce car use, with greater levels of investment in public transport and active travel and tax measures to ensure the greenest forms of transport are always the cheapest.”
