New rail industry campaign welcomed if passengers and communities get a better deal, say campaigners
30 October 2017
Campaign for Better Transport responds to the announcement today, 30 October, of the Rail Delivery Group’s (RDG) new rail campaign In Partnership for Britain’s Prosperity.
The new strategic campaign aims to bring together the rail industry to improve the whole rail network and strengthen the contribution the railways make to the economy.
Lianna Etkind, Public Transport Campaigner, Campaign for Better Transport, said:
“We welcome today’s announcement as it is vital all of the rail industry works together to ensure we have a less fragmented rail network that really works for everyone. We particularly welcome the commitment to give passengers representation in the industry and to make the industry more responsive to local communities so that it becomes less remote and alien.
“However, passengers and communities will judge this by real change on the ground rather than by fine words. We also need to see Government support – the industry needs backing for this initiative to ensure passengers and communities get a better deal.”
